Exploring Mentoring Skills to Assist New Nurses: Mentors’ and Mentees’ Perspectives

Studies on Western context have reported the mentor skills needed such as role of interpersonal comfort in mentoring relationships well age relationships. There are limited studies exploring effectiveness most relevant by mentors assisting new nurses toward becoming an effective healthcare provider Malaysian public hospital context. The mentors’ roles can be summarized into general and specific basis goal purpose mentoring. Mentor very broad almost include everything under sky learning contract, therefore, need to more clear direction order understanding between mentor, mentee organization. Data were collected from four pairs mentees (eight informants) working a Sarawak, Malaysia, using open-ended questionnaires analysed content analysis. Findings revealed that required better assist at workplace captured through acronym S.K.I.L.L.S. Hence, nurses’ -management training development programme related S.K.I.L.L. is conducted among nurses.
